It’s Sabbath-worship without doubt, but Electric Wizard are not content to just let their amps bury you over lyrics of hopeless despair. While Jus Oborn isn’t a man of many words during this track, the few tortured phrases he tosses into the mix languish as one of the elements of the whole stew: sickening bass, phasing effects, plodding drums, and a guitar tone that heaps on hissing elements of suffocation, changing the air itself into cottage cheese. Hence is the allure of the sound of this record, both cosmos-revealing and claustrophobic as hell. Woofer-flapping tones awkwardly punctuate a formless intro before that nausea-inducing RIFF seesaws in, flanked by weird samples and a voice sounding like it’s trapped inside a cardboard box. One second into the subsonic rumble of opener “Return Trip” on Electric Wizard’s second LP, 1997’s ‘Come My Fanatics’, and you are immediately set adrift on a raft in a sludge-crusted River of Styx. Matt A - People notice his tattoos but people love his taste in vinyl. The “Piper’s Pub” owner is always good for a good snack such as Long John’s donuts! He has a nice collection of some of the classics like J Geils, Steve Miller Band but also has stumped other members with offerings such as Pat Boone and The Edgar Winter Group (WHO?!). Tommy - Tommy is the king of “oddball” offerings. Bill is also known for his more eclectic pieces of vinyl in his collection, he’s been known to stump the group once or twice! The Catty Shack has been known to rock a time or two and we wouldn’t have it any other way!īill - Affectionately known as “Billy Boy” to us, Bill is a Bowie fanatic (who isn’t?) and spins his vinyl in the “Blue Star Bar” (He’s a Cowboys fan but we don’t hold that against him). He is the official note taker and keeps pristine notes of all of our get togethers. Timmy is also a co-founder of Voodoo Vinyl Club with Matt. Timmy - The “Catty Shack” owner is a major Springsteen fan (and with good reason). The “Tiki Lounge” is where he spins his vinyl and what happens at the Tiki Lounge, stays at the Tiki Lounge! You’ll often find him spinning those hair metal tunes from bands like Motley Crew, Poison, Ratt, etc. Matt - A self proclaimed “child of the 80s hair metal scene”, Matt is a co-founder of the Voodoo Vinyl Club.
